December of 2006 was an exciting time fo me. I attended the International Portrait Festival in Toronto. The four day event took place at Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Toronto, and ended with a gala banquet at Novatel Hotel, North York.
The festival was structured as a portrait competition and exhibition, with a series of workshops and art critiques. It was an excellent convention for those interested in painting the human form.
An example of one of the days was a demonstration by artist Dr.Yuqi Wang who demonstrated the beauty of the hands in a portrait. Dr. Wang is professor at the Tiianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China and is often referred to as "the second Rembrant".
This was an experience of a lifetime and for those wanting to learn the mastery of the portrait, this convention is the place to consider attending. |
