Studies

A three day workshop was held by Margaret Best at the Arts and Culture Centre in St.John's NL in April 2007. Margaret chose me as the instructor for the workshop. It was an introduction to portraiture with demonstrations and the presentation of techniques designed to help the participants capture the spirit and essence of the model.

Jenny Gear presented herself as an excellent model and the workshop was most enjoyable.
Here are some photos taken at the workshop.

December of 2006 was an exciting time fo me. I attended the International Portrait Festival in Toronto. The four day event took place at Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Toronto, and ended with a gala banquet at Novatel Hotel, North York.

The festival was structured as a portrait competition and exhibition, with a series of workshops and art critiques. It was an excellent convention for those interested in painting the human form.

An example of one of the days was a demonstration by artist Dr.Yuqi Wang who demonstrated the beauty of the hands in a portrait. Dr. Wang is professor at the Tiianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China and is often referred to as "the second Rembrant".

This was an experience of a lifetime and for those wanting to learn the mastery of the portrait, this convention is the place to consider attending.
